Congratulations on completing the core VEST training! You’ve moved beyond amateur recording and now possess the essential technical and artistic knowledge required for modern video production.
The VEST Certification is not just another certificate; it is your opportunity to prove mastery of the principles of composition, lighting, sound, and editing taught in the main course. It validates that you can successfully take a project from concept to finished, polished video—all using the gear you already own.
The Certification Goal
The VEST certification stamp signals to clients, collaborators, and potential employers that you are proficient in the fundamentals. It confirms you know how to:
- Shoot with Intention: Master composition, angle, movement, and light.
- Capture Professional Sound: Deliver clean, mixed audio every time.
- Edit for Engagement: Use software (like CapCut) to cut, pace, and refine a video for maximum viewer retention.
What the Certification Exam Covers
This Exam is designed as a final, comprehensive assessment of your skills. It consists of two major components:
1. The Theory Test (The Knowledge Check)
- Format: A comprehensive, timed exam covering all seven sections of the VEST curriculum: Narrative, Gear, Shots & Composition, Movement & Transitions, Lighting, Sound, and Post-Production.
- Purpose: To confirm your understanding of the essential rules, terminology, and technical principles necessary to plan a successful shoot.
2. The Practical Exam (The Final Project)
- Format: The creation of a single, fully produced video (similar to your “After Video”) from an entirely new concept.
- Requirements: You must conceive, shoot, and edit a finished video that intentionally and demonstrably uses techniques from every core module of the VEST curriculum. You will be required to submit a simple planning document or checklist with your final video.
- Purpose: To prove you can translate theory into a high-quality, professional final product using only a phone and basic editing software.
Pass the Theory Test and successfully execute the Practical Exam, and you will earn the official VEST Certification.
