Assignment III: Application and Finishing Prep (Section V)
This assignment focuses on the preparation required for post-press finishing, which is determined in the pre-press stage.
Exercise 5: Bleed and Safe Zone Planning
- Scenario: You are preparing a sign 800 mm x 1200 mm that will be trimmed to size and mounted on a rigid board.
- Action: In your design software (or RIP setup):
- Add a 10 mm Bleed to the file.
- Define a 40 mm Safe Zone from the final trim line.
- Documentation:
- Submit: A written calculation showing the total final print dimensions (including the 10 mm bleed on all four sides).
- Submit: A written plan detailing the two post-press steps required for this mounted sign after printing (focusing on trimming and mounting, excluding lamination).
Exercise 6: Costing Simulation
- Scenario: A client orders 5 square metres of printed vinyl. The shop charges R400 per square metre. Your material and ink production cost is R130 per square metre.
- Action: Calculate the financial outcome of the job.
- Documentation:
- Submit: A calculation showing the Total Revenue for the job.
- Submit: A calculation showing the Total Gross Profit for the job.
