Homework 1: Machine Proficiency & Calibration
Goal: Master the physical machine setup and achieve the perfect “cut depth.”
Assignment
- Blade Height Setup: Using the # method covered in the course, set your blade to a generic height suitable for cutting adhesive vinyl.
- Test Cut Routine:
- Load a small piece of scrap adhesive vinyl into your machine.
- Perform a small test cut using the test button.
- Examine the cut: Did it cut the vinyl but leave the backing paper intact?
- If the cut was imperfect, adjust the machine force (pressure) on the machine and repeat the test cut in a new location until you achieve the perfect “kiss cut” (perfect cut).
- Large Material Prep: Load a roll of vinyl, ensuring the pinch rollers have the correct tension and all slack is removed, verifying the machine’s ability to track long material straight.
Submission
Submit two photos:
Photo 1
Show your successful test cut square cleanly weeded from the scrap material, leaving the backing paper intact.
Photo 2
Back of the backing paper where the test cut square was made, showing the intensity of the force.
