Homework: Practical Application Exercises
These exercises are designed to be performed on your large format printer (LFP) machine and RIP software. Focus on following the correct procedures and documenting your results.
Assignment II: RIP Software and Workflow Simulation (Sections III & IV)
This assignment focuses on the digital preparation and the critical hand-off between software interfaces.
Exercise 3: File Check and Profile Selection
- Action: Source a high-resolution image file (a photograph, > 150 DPI) and a vector file (a logo or text).
- Procedure Focus:
- Verify both files are set to the CMYK color mode.
- Import the photograph into your InkRIP software.
- Select the correct ICC Profile for a generic, high-quality print mode (“Relevant to your Printer”).
- Documentation:
- Submit: A screenshot of the InkRIP media panel showing the correct ICC Profile selected, and the file imported.
- Submit: A written answer explaining the difference between the Pass Count (e.g., 4-pass vs. 8-pass) in the profile in terms of speed, quality, and ink consumption.
Exercise 4: Execution Sequence (RIP to Control)
- Action: Take the file from Exercise 3 and simulate the final command sequence for printing.
- Procedure Focus: Do not physically print. Focus on the distinction between the RIP processing and the hardware control.
- Documentation:
- In your InkRIP software, initiate the RIP process.
- Once the file status changes to “Ready to Print”, list the three mandatory steps you would next take using the PrintEXP (or equivalent control software) to begin the physical execution of the job.
Submission Instructions:
Complete any write-ups, screenshots or videos then submit via email to the instructor at info@ambitious.co.za or use the Academy portal.
Keep up the practical skills!
