Course Overview
Welcome!
–
This is the final step in becoming a professionally Certified CNC Router Specialist (CCRS). This external certification exam is designed to rigorously test and officially validate the industry-level skills you gained throughout the CNC Router Course – Online.

What This Exam Is About
–
This is a Professional Competency Assessment. Its purpose is to verify your mastery of the entire CNC production workflow—from 2D/3D CAD design and CAM toolpathing to machine calibration, material securing, and final precision cutting. Successful completion of this two-part exam certifies that you meet the high technical and safety standards required to manage professional CNC production and will earn you your official certification credential.

Exam Coverage and Structure
The certification exam consists of two mandatory parts:
–
1. Theory Examination (Online/Written)
This section assesses your technical knowledge across the five core modules of the course:
- Machine Mechanics: Identifying components like the Spindle, Stepper Motors, and Gantry, and understanding the critical “Snap-in” Rule for collets to prevent vibration (runout).
- Tooling & Materials: Selecting the correct toolbits (Flat End Mill, Ball Nose, V-Bit) for specific materials like MDF, Acrylic, or Aluminum.
- Software Proficiency: Mastery of the CAD-CAM workflow using CorelDRAW (with RouterCAM), Vectric Aspire, or Fusion 360.
- Setup & Calibration: Understanding the procedures for homing the machine, setting X, Y, and Z zero points, and managing the Vacuum Table valves.
- Safety & Maintenance: Strict adherence to safety protocols, including emergency stop usage, dust extraction, and routine maintenance like rail lubrication.
–
2. Practical Assessment (Hands-On or Simulation)
This is a full-cycle production simulation that requires you to execute and document a complete machining project:
- File Preparation: Demonstrate the ability to import a vector design, assign the correct toolpaths (inside/outside cuts), and set appropriate pass depths and feed rates.
- Simulation Efficiency: Successfully run a software simulation to check for tool collisions, gouging, and estimated cutting time before exporting G-code.
- Machine Execution: Document the physical setup of the machine, including securing material with the vacuum system, installing the bit correctly, and successfully zeroing the axes.
- Final Quality Check: Validate the finished product against the original design specifications, ensuring clean edges and correct dimensional accuracy.

Exam Recommendations
–
Before proceeding to the official (CCRS) exam, you should ideally have successfully completed all modules and the final project within the CNC Router Course – Online. This ensures you possess the specific theoretical knowledge and practical workflows (such as “The Snap-in Rule” and “Vacuum Table Sealing”) necessary to pass this comprehensive assessment.
